Construction Of Rail Line Proposed For Klang – Sabak Bernam, Selangor Govt

The state government is looking to establish a rail network in the northern parts of Selangor, encompassing areas like Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari was reported saying currently the main area with such facilities is Hulu Selangor, with its routes for commuters and the East Coast Rail Link currently under construction.

“The state government is encouraging the use of small-scale public transportation to connect residents between areas.

“This is something that can possibly be formulated, or initially for policy purposes, so this connectivity will be cost-effective, wherein Sabak Bernam residents can one day work in Shah Alam.

“In reality, Selangor’s northern region is not yet fully connected by a railway network. A road network already exists, but it starts from Klang to Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam without any rail equivalent,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the 12th Malaysia Plan’s (12MP) Half-Term Review Session, at the MBSA Convention Centre on Thursday (June 1).

He added a comprehensive public transportation system will fulfil the First Selangor Plan’s (RS-1) core, which focuses on low-carbon cities and a shift from private vehicle usage to public transportation.

“The state government will work side by side with all Malaysians to ensure sustainable economic growth and the equitable distribution of wealth, which will be transparently, fairly, and justly.

“As such, close cooperation between the state government and the Economy Ministry is crucial to ensure the success of both RS-1 and 12MP,” Amirudin said.
