Think City today (June 19) announced the opening of applications for the Creative KL Urban Challenge, an urban rejuvenation initiative as part of the Budget 2023 initiative, that aims to propel the urban renewal efforts of Downtown Kuala Lumpur (KL) into a thriving creative and cultural district.
Implemented in partnership with Proficeo and OpenAcademy, the Challenge will begin accepting applications on 19 June 2023. Its primary objective is to foster collaborations among citizens, universities, creative practitioners, professionals, hackers, designers, innovators, urban planners and experts as well as developers and programmers to design innovative urban solutions that enhance Downtown KL and improve the quality of life for its residents.
The innovation challenge is themed around cities, communities, and creativity, with the aim of addressing the persistent issues that Kuala Lumpur faces. It seeks solutions related to three main themes: A Better Environment for All, Enhancing Urban Accessibility, and Reimagining Urban Housing, as part of its goal to transform Downtown Kuala Lumpur into a Creative and Cultural District.
The Challenge also seeks to showcase Malaysia’s finest urban solutions, utilising Downtown KL as a regional stage for culture-based urban rejuvenation. Furthermore, it aims to spearhead the growth of the cultural and creative economy, not only for other cities within the country but also for the wider region.
