Major Delays On MRT Putrajaya Line Caused By Trespassers, Says Rapidrail

As a commuter reliant on the MRT Putrajaya Line, my morning journey today (Feb 13) was unexpectedly disrupted by significant delays, as reported by @askrapidkl on their X. The announcement, made at 6:04 am, immediately alerted passengers, including myself, to the impending inconvenience.

Arriving at Cyberjaya City Centre around 6:15 am, I was promptly informed by station staff of the service interruption and advised to board an alternative train to UPM station and board another train to Serdang Raya Utara station, before taking shuttle bus prepared by RapidKL to go to Kuchai station. Following the instructions, I proceeded to board the train to UPM, only to encounter a prolonged wait at the station due to the adjusted schedule.

At Serdang Raya Utara station, the platform gradually filled with commuters, all awaiting the arrival of the next train. With no immediate end to the delay in sight, I made the decision to disembark at Serdang Raya Utara station and explore the option of shuttle bus services to Kuchai, as suggested by station personnel.

However, the overcrowded conditions at the shuttle bus stop dissuaded me from continuing with this option. Faced with limited alternatives, I made the difficult choice to backtrack to Putrajaya Sentral and opt for an alternative route via KLIA Transit to KL Sentral, followed by a transfer to the Kelana Jaya LRT station.

Reflecting on the morning’s events, it is evident that the disruptions to the MRT Putrajaya Line not only caused inconvenience but also necessitated additional expenses, amounting to almost 20 ringgit. Despite the challenges encountered, I remain appreciative of @askrapidkl’s efforts to rectify the situation and restore normalcy to the train services.

@askrapidkl or Rapidrail in an official statement has addressed the issue, reporting that the disruption was reportedly caused by an individual trespassing onto the railway tracks at Taman Naga Emas station and Sungai Besi Station at 4.56am.

Rapid KL, the operator of the MRT Putrajaya Line, swiftly responded to the situation by deploying Rapid Rail’s auxiliary police personnel to the scene. The personnel promptly located the trespasser and informed the Operations Control Center (OCC) of the situation.

To ensure the safety of passengers and facilitate the apprehension of the intruder, power supply to the affected area was immediately cut off. Subsequently, a rescue team comprising personnel from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and medical personnel arrived at Taman Naga Emas Station at 6:30 a.m. The intruder was successfully extricated from the railway tracks and taken into custody at 7:11 a.m.

In light of the incident, Rapid KL activated alternative rail services and provided free shuttle buses between Kuchai and Serdang Raya Utara stations to facilitate passengers’ onward journeys. Additionally, as per safety protocols, thorough inspections of the affected area were conducted by the OCC before power supply could be reinstated.

Following the completion of safety checks, MRT Putrajaya Line services resumed full operation at 7:36 a.m., with schedules gradually returning to normal. Rapid Rail expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused to commuters and assured passengers of their commitment to enhancing safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
