PADU: Sarawak Says Yet To Hear From Economic Ministry

The Sarawak State government said it had yet receive any representative from the Economic Ministry to clear the air over the central database hub system designed by the Federal Government that aims to collect vital information about Malaysians called PADU.

Premier Datuk Tan Sri Abang Johari said he is still waiting for a representative from the Economic Ministry as stated by its minister Rafizi Ramli before Sarawak’s official call for its citizens to not update their details on PADU until further clarity is provided.

The issue was on the concerns of the data and its security, with such large database the State wanted to know how secure are the database and the possibility of cyberattacks.

PADU closed registration on March 31, securing over 10 million Malaysians data after seeing a last minute push, the Ministry and the Department of Statistics acknowledged that the data was sufficient to map out the household scenario on the country. With the data, the Ministry will next move to classify B40, M40 in accordance to information it received and ultimately target giving subsidies and aids to the right population segment.
