EKVE 89% Complete, Set For December 2025 Completion

The East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) is currently 89.13% complete and is expected to be fully operational by December 31, 2025, according to state executive councillor for public infrastructure and agriculture, Izham Hisham.

During a State Legislative Assembly session today, Izham acknowledged that while the project was originally scheduled for earlier completion, unforeseen issues led to delays. These issues have now been resolved.

Izham was addressing a query from Dusun Tua state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz about the delays and actions taken against the developers. He explained that internal issues and financial constraints had caused the delays, but corrective measures were underway.

The Kajang Municipal Council has fined the EKVE developers RM250,000 under Section 71 of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 for failing to control construction site runoff, which resulted in mud floods in Taman Desa Budiman and the Twin Palm Tunnel at Bandar Sungai Long. The developers have since installed silt traps to mitigate water flow issues.

Regarding road and bridge maintenance along the EKVE, Izham noted that this responsibility falls under the Public Works Department.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali raised concerns about a potential new alignment for the EKVE, which he claimed might be unsafe. In response, Izham assured that the alignment, under the Malaysian Highway Authority’s jurisdiction, adheres to best practices and regulatory standards.

“I am confident that the highway alignment has been conducted following proper methods and regulations,” Izham concluded.
