Strong 6.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Mindanao, No Tsunami Threat To Malaysia

A strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Mindanao in the southern Philippines late on Tuesday night, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).

In a post on X, METMalaysia said the earthquake occurred at 11.49pm, with its epicentre located at latitude 5.4 degrees North and longitude 125.1 degrees East, about 130km south of Koronadal City, Philippines.

The department said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km.

METMalaysia also confirmed that the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.

The department continues to monitor seismic activity in the region through its earthquake monitoring system and provides updates via its official channels.
