Bank Rakyat via Imtiaz Sukuk II Bhd has issued its maiden RM500 million ASEAN Sustainability Sustainable & Responsible Investment (SRI) Sukuk from its existing RM10 billion Sukuk Wakalah Programme.
The issuance marks Bank Rakyat’s first sustainability offering following the completion of a post-issuance revision of term exercise in August 2024, allowing it to embed the sustainability issuance format into the Sukuk Wakalah Programme.
Bank Rakyat Acting Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff said the proceeds raised shall be used to finance eligible projects that contribute towards environmental and social benefits as outlined in the financial institution’s Sustainability Sukuk Framework.
“This effort will further support the bank’s objective to expand our green and social financing portfolio whilst reinforcing our role as one of the key contributors to the economic growth of the nation,” Ahmad Shahril said.
Maybank Investment Bank Bhd acted as the joint lead manager and facility agent while Maybank Islamic Bhd is the shariah advisor for this debut issuance.
