Nestlé Malaysia has signed a Collaboration Agreement with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to launch Programme SELKitar, extending its Door-to-Door Collection and Recycling Programme under Project SAVE.
Currently the largest voluntary Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) initiative in Malaysia, Project SAVE has reached over 200,000 households and diverted over 33,000 tonnes of waste, including 20,000 tonnes of plastic, from landfills and oceans.
Programme SELKitar will begin in May 2025, targeting 17,000 households in landed communities under Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) and Majlis Perbandaran Sepang, with plans to expand into strata residences and suburban villages.
The agreement was officiated by Selangor State EXCO for Public Health and Environment, Jamaliah Jamaluddin and witnessed by Menteri Besar Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin bin Shari.
Datuk Seri Amirudin said, “The implementation of Act 672 in Selangor signals our commitment to uniform, sustainable waste practices and this partnership reflects our belief that progress can only be achieved through joint, sustained effort.”
Jamaliah added, “By combining infrastructure with education and awareness, we are creating a ‘recycling-ready’ Selangor that is better equipped to build a more sustainable future.”
Nestlé Malaysia CEO Juan Aranols said, “Programme SELKitar represents a meaningful extension to our ongoing Project SAVE… With the continued expansion of our Door-to-Door Collection and Recycling Programme, we move closer to our vision of a Malaysia free of plastic waste.”
The collaboration supports Selangor’s 2025 Budget waste reduction goals and features tailored strategies for different community types, with recyclables transported to a facility in Bukit Puchong.
Nestlé Malaysia’s Project SAVE includes four recovery programmes across multiple councils and is supported by Alam Flora, KPT Recycle, and ESH Resource Management.
