Infineon Technologies has commenced an additional investment of RM30 billion to build the world’s largest 200mm Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Fab at Kulim Hi-Tech Industrial Park, Kedah.
The mega project, which marks a significant boost to Malaysia’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions, was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, underscoring the collaborative effort between the federal and state governments in attracting high-value investments.
According to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, the plant’s first phase is already completed and operational. The development follows an earlier announcement by the Prime Minister during an investment and trade mission to Germany, where the deal was secured after discussions with Infineon’s top management.
“This investment not only positions Malaysia as a key global semiconductor hub, but it also creates 1,500 high-paying jobs for local talent,” Tengku Zafrul said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Infineon’s commitment to Malaysia extends beyond plant operations, with the company pledging to support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through its Vendor Development Programme, launched on January 15, 2025. The initiative currently involves 139 local companies, further strengthening domestic supply chains and industrial capabilities.
“This is a significant milestone and a strong testament to Infineon’s confidence in Malaysia,” Tengku Zafrul added, noting that the investment reflects the government’s success in turning potential deals into reality.
