Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed a new group of ambassadors to various countries, in line with the decisions of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, the Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
The appointments reflect Beijing’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its diplomatic presence and deepen bilateral relations across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central Asia.
Among the key changes:
- Xu Yong has been named ambassador to Cameroon, succeeding Wang Yingwu.
- Sun Yong takes over as ambassador to Guinea, replacing Huang Wei.
- Zhang Yang has been appointed ambassador to Cabo Verde, succeeding Xu Jie.
- Huang Zheng will serve as ambassador to the Comoros, replacing Guo Zhijun.
- Guo Zhijun will move on to become ambassador to Tajikistan, replacing Ji Shumin.
- Ji Shumin has been assigned to Turkmenistan, replacing Qian Naicheng.
- Zhao Deyong has been appointed ambassador to Burkina Faso, succeeding Lu Shan.
- Wang Jinfeng takes over as ambassador to Jamaica, replacing Chen Daojiang.
- Zheng Bingkai has been named ambassador to Barbados, succeeding Yan Xiusheng.
- Zhang Jianwei will assume the role of ambassador to Thailand, succeeding Han Zhiqiang.
Diplomatic analysts note that the ambassadorial reshuffle comes at a time when Beijing is intensifying its outreach under the Belt and Road Initiative, while also strengthening political and economic engagement with regions of growing geopolitical importance.
