Bank Launches ESG Playbook For SMEs

Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd has launched “The ESG Playbook: Practical Steps for Manufacturing SMEs”, a hands-on guide designed to help manufacturers embed environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices into daily operations while sustaining efficiency and growth.

Developed with Monash University Malaysia and Zurich Malaysia, alongside partners including the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association, Penang Green Council and UN Global Compact Network Malaysia Brunei, the playbook translates ESG principles into actionable steps tailored for local SMEs.

It features real-world case studies from Malaysian manufacturers across the value chain, highlighting how ESG adoption can strengthen resilience and unlock new opportunities.

Alliance Bank Group CEO Kellee Kam said stronger ESG practices can drive cost efficiencies, improve risk management, enhance investor confidence and build more resilient supply chains.

“The playbook aims to move SMEs from awareness to implementation by offering clear frameworks and practical examples with measurable business outcomes,” Kam emphasised.

Key highlights include case studies from companies such as Hexa Food, IGL Coatings, Thumbprints Utd and Artmatrix Technology, alongside other SMEs recognised for innovative approaches to sustainability, governance and social impact.

The guide also introduces eight ESG leadership archetypes to help manufacturers assess maturity levels and chart transformation pathways.

Kam said the playbook is the first in a planned series targeting key sectors and is now available to help businesses embed sustainability as a long-term value driver.
