Art collectors, take note: a major Malaysian and Southeast Asian art auction is landing in Kuala Lumpur on April 26, 2026. Hosted by HBA Art Auction, the sale kicks off at 1 pm at Menara KEN TTDI in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, with a week-long public preview from April 18 to 25.
Leading the lineup is About The Andaman (1999) by Ibrahim Hussein, carrying a top estimate of RM500,000. The piece stands out for its bold composition and is expected to draw strong attention. Also in the mix is The Crescent Moon (1977) by Khoo Sui Hoe, estimated at RM30,000 to RM60,000, offering a quieter, more reflective contrast.
Works by Sharifah Fatimah Syed Zubir and Chuah Thean Teng add further range to the sale. Dancing Forms I (1994) brings expressive abstraction, while Lullaby (1986) highlights the continued relevance of batik in fine art. Both sit within accessible mid-range estimates, making them appealing to a wider group of buyers.
Rounding out the highlights is a contemporary entry by Tan Wei Kheng, whose untitled 2010 oil painting is estimated at RM20,000 to RM36,000.
The inclusion of newer voices alongside established names reflects a broader shift in the regional market, where collectors are increasingly open to discovering emerging or mid-career artists while still valuing historically significant figures.
