Box Office Momentum Builds As Prada Sequel And Michael Lead Globally

The summer box office is already moving at full speed, and two films are doing most of the heavy lifting right now. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has come out of the gate with a global total of $114.6 million in its early days, and most of that momentum is coming from overseas audiences.

International markets are driving the story here, contributing $82.1 million from 51 territories, compared with $32.5 million from North America, including previews. The film has been a clear number one almost everywhere it’s opened, with only a few exceptions such as the Netherlands, South Africa, Bolivia and Ecuador.

Japan has been a standout, giving the sequel a number one debut and the highest opening day of the year for a Motion Picture Association release. Similar strong starts have been seen across India, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Australia and multiple European and Asian markets, where it’s already competing with the biggest openings of 2026.

Looking at individual territories, Italy leads the way with $9.7 million and a dominant 78% share of the weekend box office. Brazil follows with $6.6 million, while Mexico is close behind at $6.3 million after one of its strongest opening days this year. Germany and China are both sitting at $4.9 million, with China holding onto the top spot locally.

Elsewhere, France has reached $4.6 million so far. The UK opened with $4 million, landing the second-highest opening day of the year. Australia posted $4.5 million, its strongest launch so far in 2026, while Korea has brought in $2.8 million alongside strong audience ratings. Spain adds another $2.5 million, rounding out a steady European performance.

At the same time, Michael continues to build quietly but firmly on a major global run. The film has now passed $413 million worldwide, with $232.5 million coming from international markets and $180.8 million from North America.

That puts it in second place among musical biopics globally, behind Bohemian Rhapsody, and it’s still rolling out in more markets, which means the total is expected to climb further over the weekend.
