Agong Revokes Mohd Isa’s Tan Sri Title After Corruption Conviction

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has consented to the revocation of the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award, which carries the title Tan Sri, from Datuk Mohd Isa Abdul Samad following his corruption conviction.

The Prime Minister’s Department said the revocation took effect on June 8 as Mohd Isa is currently serving a prison sentence at Sungai Buloh Prison in Selangor.

It said the decision was made in accordance with the Statute of the Most Esteemed Order of the Crown of Malaysia, which allows honours to be withdrawn if a recipient is convicted of an offence.

The move also follows Sultan Ibrahim’s decree on the revocation of federal honours issued during the Federal Awards, Decorations and Medals Investiture Ceremony at Istana Negara on Sept 7, 2024.

Mohd Isa, 76, is serving a six-year jail term after the Federal Court on Feb 10 allowed the prosecution’s appeal, reinstating his corruption conviction, prison sentence and fine.

The High Court had sentenced him on Feb 3, 2021 to six years’ imprisonment and a RM15.45 million fine, with an additional two-year jail term in default of payment.

The conviction relates to nine corruption charges involving RM3 million linked to the acquisition of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching by Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd.
