Colombia were made to work hard before securing a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in their World Cup Group K clash at Mexico City Stadium on 18 June 2026.
The South Americans started strongly and took control early, but Uzbekistan showed resilience to stay in the contest and briefly threatened a famous result on their World Cup debut.
Abbosbek Fayzullaev’s equaliser sparked hopes of a shock draw, bringing Uzbekistan level after Colombia had opened the scoring. For a short spell, the Central Asians looked capable of holding on under pressure.
The momentum shifted once again as Colombia stepped up in the decisive moments. With the pressure mounting, Luis Díaz restored Colombia’s advantage before Jhon Arias struck the final blow to seal the result.
The win ensures Colombia begin their Group K campaign on a strong note, while Uzbekistan are left to reflect on a spirited but ultimately unsuccessful performance.
