PM Anwar Says Putin Assured Malaysia’s Energy Supply For Next 20 Years

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Russian President Vladimir Putin has assured Malaysia of long-term cooperation to secure the country’s petrol, gas and diesel supplies for the next 20 years.

Anwar said the assurance was made possible through the strong friendship between Malaysia and Russia.

“President Putin gave his assurance on a long-term agreement to ensure Malaysia’s oil, gas and diesel supplies remain secure for 20 years. This is because of our friendship,” he said.

Anwar said Malaysia’s policy of maintaining good relations with all countries has helped strengthen international partnerships and attract investment.

He added that discussions with Putin and Turkmenistan’s leadership had also delivered positive outcomes for Malaysia’s energy security.

The Prime Minister said Turkmenistan had agreed to award PETRONAS the development of Blocks Nine and Ten which holds the world’s largest gas reserves.

Anwar met Putin during his working visit to Kazan, Russia, on June 17-18 for the 35th ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit.
