Commuters on the LRT3 Shah Alam Line will be able to travel without charge for one month from tomorrow, as the government rolls out a full fare waiver covering both train services and feeder buses along the route.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that free rides will run from June 29 until July 31, describing the initiative as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on commuters while encouraging greater use of public transport on one of the country’s busiest corridors.
Speaking at the official launch of the Shah Alam Line at the Johan Setia LRT Depot, Anwar highlighted the strategic importance of the route, noting that it serves areas heavily affected by traffic congestion. “This route is among the most congested in our country. When congestion is high, it places a heavy burden on the people,” he said.
The temporary fare suspension also applies to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad feeder bus services operating along the line, expanding the benefit beyond rail users to the wider public transport network linked to the corridor.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister rode the LRT3 from Seri Andalas station to Johan Setia, a journey of around 15 minutes, before officiating the launch ceremony.
Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, alongside senior representatives from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.
The Shah Alam Line represents a RM16.63 billion infrastructure investment aimed at strengthening Klang Valley’s public transport network. According to operators, the line is supported by 40 feeder bus routes serving 323 stops across 13 dedicated corridors, operating daily from 6 am to 11:30 pm at a flat fare of RM1.
Complementing the rail and bus network, 44 Rapid On-Demand vans across 20 zones are also in service, offering rides at RM2 within the same operating hours.
Accessibility features have been integrated across all stations, including wheelchair ramps, accessible toilets and designated seating for passengers with disabilities.
