U Mobile Exits DNB Wholesale Deal, Completes Customer Migration To Own 5G Network

Mobile network operator U Mobile Sdn Bhd stated that it has officially exited its wholesale access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad effective today and successfully completed a full customer migration to its own standalone, nationwide “ULTRA5G” network.

The telco stated that the wholesale arrangement with DNB had been maintained as an interim measure to ensure service continuity while it accelerated the deployment of its independent infrastructure.

Since commencing its independent 5G rollout in July 2025, U Mobile has rapidly scaled its infrastructure to achieve more than 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA). This aggressive deployment earned the company a recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for the Fastest 5G Network Rollout in the country, completing the network well ahead of schedule.

The operator noted that the performance and user experience of its new network have been validated by independent third-party analytics firms, including Ookla and Opensignal.

To fund the continued capital expenditure, expansion, and long-term optimization of its next-generation infrastructure, U Mobile announced it has successfully secured RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing. The funding was raised from a consortium of leading local and international financial institutions.

U Mobile Chief Executive Officer Wong Heang Tuck described the transition as a defining milestone for the company’s corporate trajectory.

“The completion of our transition to our own nationwide ULTRA5G network gives us full control over our network, allowing us to innovate faster, elevate customer experience, and introduce more differentiated products and services that meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses, be it indoors or outdoors,” Wong said.

“Together with our 5G Standalone (SA) network, this puts us in a strong position to bring more industry-leading innovations to market while continuing to raise the bar for customer experience,” he added.

With full operational control over its network architecture, U Mobile plans to roll out an expanded portfolio of specialized consumer and enterprise services.
