Internet connectivity issues, the impact of the conflict in West Asia on Malaysia’s fuel subsidy bill and access to housing financing for gig workers are among the key matters set to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s official website, Datuk Anyi Ngau (GPS-Baram) will ask the Communications Minister to outline the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) comprehensive plan to address complaints of internet services being unavailable despite users receiving full mobile signal strength.
Meanwhile, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) is expected to seek the Finance Minister’s latest assessment of how the conflict in West Asia has affected the country’s fuel subsidy expenditure and whether rising subsidy costs could have implications for this year’s fiscal deficit target.
The Finance Minister will also be asked by Jamaludin Yahya (PN-Pasir Salak) to explain measures to help self-employed individuals, small traders, hawkers and gig workers secure financing for their first homes despite not having fixed salary slips.
Separately, Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong) will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister about the government’s preparedness to introduce a national regulatory framework and new legislation governing confinement centres.
Following the oral question session, the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to continue with the second reading of the Communications and Multimedia (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026.
Both Bills were tabled for their first reading on July 13.
The current Dewan Rakyat meeting is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, July 16.
