The Sabah government is working with the Finance Ministry (MOF) and relevant federal agencies to improve the implementation mechanism of the targeted diesel subsidy programme following its expansion to the state on July 1.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said a follow-up meeting involving state government representatives, MOF and federal agencies will be held on July 17 to review concerns raised by affected stakeholders and develop suitable recommendations.
“A follow-up meeting involving state government bodies, MOF Malaysia, and federal agencies will be held on July 17 to examine these concerns and formulate appropriate recommendations,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
The meeting will be chaired by State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman, with the discussions aimed at evaluating operational challenges and identifying improvements to ensure a smoother transition for those affected.
Hajiji said the targeted diesel subsidy implementation was also discussed during the State Cabinet meeting on July 13, highlighting the government’s focus on addressing concerns arising from the policy rollout.
He added that the state government takes all feedback seriously and has instructed relevant agencies to assess the socio-economic impact of the subsidy changes on the ground.
“Appropriate solutions and recommendations will be considered during the upcoming federal-state discussions to ease the transition for affected sectors,” Hajiji said.
The discussions are expected to focus on refining the mechanism while ensuring the subsidy programme continues to support targeted groups and sectors impacted by the changes.
