Selangor Expands Free Ambulance Services To All 56 Districts

The Selangor government has expanded its free ambulance service under the Ambulans Kita Selangor (AKS) programme to cover all 56 state constituencies, aimed at helping patients who face transport barriers in accessing medical care.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said AKS Phase 2, which began on 1 July, has been extended to all nine districts in the state and now covers 86 government health clinics, compared with 23 healthcare facilities previously.

The initiative provides free ambulance transportation for non-emergency cases, particularly for chronic patients, senior citizens and bedridden patients who require assistance to attend medical appointments or undergo medical transfers.

Amirudin said the programme was introduced to ensure residents are not left behind from receiving treatment due to transportation limitations, especially for families facing financial challenges.

“Access to healthcare services is the right of every citizen, not dependent on financial capability,” he said in a statement.

The expanded phase involves a RM1 million allocation, with the Selangor government continuing its collaboration with St John Ambulance Malaysia to ensure the service can reach more residents effectively.

Amirudin added that transportation costs to hospitals could become a burden for some families, causing patients to delay necessary treatment.

The launch also saw the introduction of Bunga Tanjung as Selangor’s official Public Health Icon, representing the state government’s commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle, improving access to quality healthcare services and building a more resilient community.

He said Selangor’s development should not only be measured through economic achievements but also through efforts to protect public welfare and improve residents’ quality of life.
