Google Launches YouTube Creators For Impact Programme In Malaysia

Google has officially launched its YouTube Creators for Impact programme in Malaysia, bringing together six well-known local content creators to promote online safety, digital wellbeing and responsible technology use as concerns over children’s online experiences continue to grow.

The initiative seeks to make conversations around online safety more accessible for Malaysian families by leveraging trusted digital creators to educate parents and children on using YouTube’s safety features, parental controls and digital wellbeing tools.

The Malaysian rollout forms part of YouTube’s broader effort to create a safer online ecosystem and comes as parents increasingly seek practical guidance in managing their children’s digital lives. Citing findings from the 2025 APAC AI Safety Survey by YouGov, Google said 72% of Malaysian parents felt more confident discussing online safety with their children when they used digital safety or educational tools together.

To support that effort, Google has appointed six Malaysian creators as Lighthouse Creators under the programme. They are A Lad and a Dad, Aqil Zulkiflee, Fourfeetnine, FU LOVE, Im_siowei and JE Pong, selected for their credibility, positive influence and ability to engage audiences on issues affecting families and young people.

Over the next two months, the creators will undergo workshops and collaborative sessions with industry experts focusing on key online safety issues, particularly parental controls and youth wellbeing. They will then produce educational content designed to help parents better understand available digital safety tools while encouraging healthier online habits among children.

The content will revolve around three main themes:

  • Smart Guardrails, which focuses on practical guidance for using parental controls and online safety features.
  • Digital Wellness, which encourages healthy screen habits and balanced technology use within families.
  • Purposeful Tech, highlighting how digital platforms can be used for education, learning and skills development.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said creating a safer digital environment requires collective action involving the government, technology companies and the wider community.

“Building a secure and resilient digital ecosystem is a core national priority, but achieving a truly safe online space requires a shared commitment between the government, industry leaders and communities. We commend Google’s proactive efforts to build a digitally secure community in Malaysia by utilising our nation’s vibrant creator ecosystem.”

Google Malaysia and Singapore managing director Ben King said the company has invested for more than a decade in developing tools that enable children to explore online platforms while giving parents greater confidence safely.

“At Google, we believe in protecting kids in, not from, the digital world, which is why we have invested for over a decade to give Malaysian families the tools they need to explore our platform safely. Having our creators join this vital conversation to help families build healthy online habits and confidently leverage our safety guardrails is incredibly powerful.”

He added that combining Google’s technology with trusted Malaysian creators would help families better understand digital safety features while encouraging responsible online behaviour.

Among the participating creators, JE Pong said her perspective on YouTube has evolved from being a creator to becoming a parent concerned about the next generation’s online experiences.

“Years ago, I came to YouTube as an artist chasing creative dreams. Fast forward to today, I look at it through the lens of a mother invested in what the next generation consumes online. While a fast-moving digital world can feel overwhelming, our responsibility is not to fear technology, but to master it with confidence. Knowing platforms like YouTube embed safety features into the everyday experience gives families like mine real peace of mind. Through Creators for Impact, I hope to use my voice to bridge the gap between technology and parenting, helping more children explore, learn, and grow safely.”

The launch underscores Google’s continued investment in online safety initiatives in Malaysia, with the company using its creator ecosystem to complement existing platform safeguards and encourage more informed digital parenting. Through the programme, Google aims to empower parents with practical knowledge while helping children develop safer and healthier relationships with technology.
