The Negeri Sembilan Law and Justice Council (DKU) has ruled that three individuals previously associated with the position of Undang Luak do not have valid legal standing under the state’s constitutional and customary provisions.
In a statement today, DKU identified the individuals as Mubarak Thahak, who was linked to the position of Undang Luak Sungai Ujong; Abdul Rahim Yasin, associated with Undang Luak Rembau; and Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad, associated with Undang Luak Jelebu.
DKU said the positions of Undang Luak Sungai Ujong and Undang Luak Jelebu had been terminated according to the respective luak customs. For Rembau, the council ruled that the appointment was never completed per the required procedures and did not undergo the Istiadat Menzahirkan Kejadian Undang.
The council said the three individuals therefore had no legal authority to exercise powers under Article X of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution 1959.
According to BuletinTV3, the decision was made during a DKU conference chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, with the attendance of relevant Undang Luak and Tunku Besar Seri Menanti meeting the quorum requirements under Clause 20 of the state constitution.
At the same conference, DKU confirmed the appointments of two new Undang Luak. Datuk Klana Petra Muhammad Faris Johari was appointed as Undang Luak Sungai Ujong, while Datuk Sedia Raja Hassan Ab Hamid was appointed as Undang Luak Rembau. Both appointments followed the required Istiadat Menzahirkan Kejadian Undang on June 27.
The council also declared a document dated April 19, 2026, as unconstitutional for violating Article X of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution 1959. It ruled that the document was invalid and directed the state government to take the necessary steps to implement the decision.
