The newly formed Negeri Sembilan state government has decided not to increase residential assessment rates for the next five years to ease the financial burden on households.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim said the decision was made at the state executive council meeting on Aug 10, despite local authorities having been studying a possible revision that could have taken effect as early as January or July.
He said residents would continue to pay assessment tax, but there would be no increase in residential rates for five years.
The move, he added, was part of Barisan Nasional’s manifesto for the recent state election.
Separately, Ismail said the first special sitting of the State Legislative Assembly will be held on Aug 18, where the sitting will include the swearing-in of all state assemblymen, the appointment of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as well as the tabling of a supplementary budget to meet several state financial requirements.
Ismail said the Speaker would be appointed from outside the assembly, while the Deputy Speaker must be chosen from among the state assemblymen.
