The number of job offerings advertised online in Malaysia fell 11.4% to 555,509 in the second quarter of 2026 (2Q2026), according to the latest Job Market Insights released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
The quarterly report tracks job vacancies advertised through major private recruitment platforms and provides insights into demand across major occupational groups and economic activities.
The Professional occupational group continued to account for the largest share of online job offerings, with 285,907 vacancies or 51.5% of total postings during the quarter.
However, this was lower than the 315,768 vacancies recorded in 1Q2026.
The Managers category ranked second with 87,950 job offerings, followed by Technicians and Associate Professionals with 86,512 vacancies.
Among specific occupations, Advertising and Marketing Professionals recorded the highest demand, with 40,640 job offerings.
This was followed by Managing Directors and Chief Executives with 26,649 vacancies, Administrative Associate Professionals with 23,984, Accountants and Auditors with 22,067 and Software Developers with 19,899.
The figures indicate that demand remained concentrated in higher-skilled professional and managerial positions despite the overall decline in online job advertisements.
The Services sector continued to account for the largest number of online job offerings, with 243,896 vacancies or 43.9% of the total in 2Q2026.
Within the Services sector, the Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles subsector recorded the highest number of vacancies at 78,526.
It was followed by:
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities: 32,127 vacancies
- Administrative and Support Service Activities: 28,788
- Accommodation and Food Service Activities: 20,629
- Financial and Insurance/Takaful Activities: 20,593
The data showed that services-related industries continued to be a major source of employment opportunities, particularly in trade, professional services, administration, hospitality and financial activities.
DOSM’s latest figures suggest that while online hiring demand softened in the second quarter, opportunities remained concentrated in professional occupations and service-oriented activities.
