Catherine Zeta-Jones is taking on a new role as a former drug smuggler whose past catches up with her in Kill Jackie, an eight-part thriller series set to premiere this October.
The series will debut on Prime Video on Oct. 2 in the U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Canada. All eight episodes will be released on the same day.
In the U.S., Kill Jackie will air on AMC+ later this year. A specific release date has not been announced.
Based on Nick Harkaway’s novel The Price You Pay, written under the pseudonym Aidan Truhen, the series follows Jackie Price, a former international drug smuggler who has since become an art dealer.
Her new life is disrupted when she discovers that seven assassins, known as the Seven Demons, have been hired to kill her. Believing someone from her past is responsible, Jackie decides to track them down before they find her.
The story then turns personal as Jackie’s search leads her back to secrets she has kept hidden, bringing the threat closer to home.
According to Variety, the series is co-created by Conor Keane and Tom Butterworth, with Butterworth serving as writer and showrunner. Damon Thomas, who directed episodes of Killing Eve, is the lead director.
The cast alongside Zeta-Jones includes Daniel Ings, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Bill Paterson, Ron Perlman, Óscar Jaenada, Hattie Hook, Darci Shaw, Raff Law, Enzo Cilenti and Christine Adams.
Kill Jackie is produced by Fremantle and Steel Springs Pictures. Peter Lawson, known for his work on John Wick, is among the executive producers, alongside Zeta-Jones, Butterworth and Thomas. Harkaway is also attached to the series as an executive consultant.
With its mix of crime, suspense and personal stakes, Kill Jackie gives viewers another thriller to watch next season.
