A weak 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck Keningau, Sabah this morning, with tremors felt in the district and surrounding areas.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake occurred at 9.31 am, with its epicentre located about 10 kilometres west of Keningau at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The epicentre was recorded at coordinates 5.3 degrees north and 116.1 degrees east.
“Tremors were felt in Keningau, Sabah and the surrounding areas. MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation,” the department said in a post on X.
The department continues to monitor the situation following the earthquake.
Meanwhile, checks by the Fire and Rescue Department found no structural damage, collapses, fires or injuries following the tremor. Seven personnel inspected four locations in Keningau, including G-MART Keningau, Apollo Furniture, the Keningau Health Office and the Keningau District Police Headquarters.
