Cloud seeding operations in Sarawak will continue based on advice from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), taking into account prevailing wind conditions and suitable cloud cover, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said MetMalaysia would determine when and where the operations should be conducted to help reduce haze in affected areas.
“The operations will continue depending on wind conditions and cloud cover. We are taking advice from MetMalaysia on when and where cloud seeding should be carried out based on the prevailing wind patterns,” he told reporters after launching the national-level Orang Asli Sports Carnival (KSOA) 2026 at the EduCity Sports Complex here today.
Also present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, said air quality remained a concern in several areas of Sarawak, including Kuching and Sri Aman. However, the situation in Sri Aman had improved.
As of 8 am today, Kuching recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 235, while Sri Aman recorded 216. Both readings were in the very unhealthy category.
He said the continued cloud seeding was expected to help lower API readings, particularly ahead of the Malaysia Day celebrations in Kuching.
