Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom has been released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail after completing a seven-day remand over an investigation linked to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji.
Jamil Khir, who was remanded until today, was released after the remand period expired, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed.
“The suspect has been released on MACC bail,” he said.
Jamil Khir was detained at 4.30pm on Sept 2 after appearing at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to assist investigations into issues raised in the Tabung Haji RCI report.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
Jamil Khir’s lawyer Datuk Hamidi Mohd Noh had previously said the former minister had consistently cooperated with investigators since 2018 and had never failed to assist throughout the period.
The MACC had earlier obtained remand orders against 11 individuals as part of the investigation, including a former Tabung Haji chairman, former chief executive officer, senior management members and individuals linked to related companies.
