Another Government Grant Poster Goes Viral, But Its Fake

The Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department has denied that a viral “Entrepreneur Equipment Grant” poster circulating on WhatsApp is an official government communication, warning that the information it contains is inaccurate.

In a Facebook post, the department said the poster was created and distributed by an individual without reference to or verification from them.

“The information regarding the application method displayed is inaccurate and cannot be used as an official reference. The public is requested not to redistribute the poster,” it said.

ICU JPM urged the public to verify information on government assistance, grants and initiatives through State ICU JPM offices and the department’s official social media channels.

The department also reminded the public that creating or disseminating false or misleading content through network facilities may constitute an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Those convicted may face a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
