Tommy Hilfiger went back to familiar territory for Spring/Summer 2027, but the clothes were not quite as traditional as they first appeared.
Presented at The Plaza Hotel in New York on September 10, the collection revisited the American prep codes that have long defined the label. This time, they came with looser proportions, shorter hemlines and some unexpected styling.
The runway opened with Gigi Hadid in red trousers, a khaki blazer, an oversized logo T-shirt and a navy bucket hat. Romeo Beckham closed the show in a plaid Ivy jacket, pink Oxford shirt, knit tie and grey pinstriped shorts.
Between them came a collection built around familiar Hilfiger staples.
Polo shirts, Oxford shirts, chinos, rugby dresses and tartan blazers were among the key pieces. The difference was in the proportions. Some tops were deliberately oversized, while others were cut close to the body. Traditional trousers were shortened into hot pants, and some shirts were styled backwards.
The footwear stayed within the same prep-meets-casual direction. Penny loafers and boat shoes appeared alongside leather pool slides and a skate sneaker inspired by the 1990s.
Colour also played a central role. The collection used primary shades alongside the brand’s familiar red, white and blue palette. Branding was more restrained than in some of Hilfiger’s earlier collections, with the clothes doing most of the work.
The setting added another layer to the collection. The Plaza was once home to Hilfiger and his family, making the venue a direct link to the designer’s history in New York.
The show also drew a sizeable celebrity crowd, including Kate Moss, Camila Cabello, JISOO, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Victoria Justice. Several New York Knicks players were also in attendance.
After the runway, attention quickly moved to clips from the show circulating online. Short videos gave the collection another audience beyond those following the fashion week coverage.
