Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Sept 17 after a volatile session, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) losing 4.47 points as rising US Treasury yields and concerns over further monetary tightening by the US Federal Reserve weighed on investor sentiment.
At 5pm, the FBM KLCI settled at 1,674.74, down from the close of 1,679.21 on Sept 15. The benchmark moved between an intraday low of 1,670.75 and a high of 1,684.92.
The local bourse resumed trading after being closed on Sept 16 in conjunction with the Malaysia Day public holiday.
The broader market also finished mostly weaker. The FBM 70 slipped 8.42 points to 17,607.23, while the FBM Emas fell 29.11 points to 12,414.82. The FBM Shariah declined 28.55 points to 12,273.87, while the F4GBM shed 2.36 points to 1,006.95.

Zetrix AI Bhd was the most actively traded counter, slipping one sen to 24.5 sen on 293.62 million shares.
AirAsia Group Bhd followed, falling 13.5 sen to 50.5 sen on 155.58 million shares, while Capital A Bhd lost 4.5 sen to 23 sen on 135 million shares.
New ACE Market debutant Pioneer Heat Holdings Bhd bucked the weaker market, finishing at 30 sen, five sen or 20% above its 25 sen IPO price, on 80.18 million shares.
TWL Holdings Bhd was unchanged at 2.5 sen on 66 million shares.
The softer close came as investors remained cautious over elevated US bond yields and the prospect that the Federal Reserve could maintain a tighter monetary policy stance, keeping pressure on risk appetite across regional markets.
