Hong Leong Bank, PetChem Lead Bursa Losers As ViTrox Tops Gainers

Hong Leong Bank Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) led Bursa Malaysia’s biggest decliners, while ViTrox Corp Bhd emerged as the top gainer as market breadth remained subdued.

Hong Leong Bank shed 36 sen, or 1.5%, to close at RM23.10, making it the day’s biggest loser by absolute price movement. PetChem followed closely, sliding 34 sen, or 6.5%, to RM4.86 on 14.15 million shares.

Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd declined 26 sen to RM22.86, while Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd dropped 22 sen to RM18.56.

Bursa Malaysia Bhd rounded out the five biggest losers, falling 18 sen to RM8.07.

Selling pressure outweighed buying interest across the broader market, with 673 decliners against 465 gainers. Another 548 counters were unchanged, 1,170 untraded and 13 suspended.

On the upside, automated test equipment maker ViTrox led gainers with a 48-sen, or 5.3%, jump to RM9.58 on 4.65 million shares.

Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd advanced 40 sen to RM40.10, while Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd climbed 36 sen to RM12.74.

Nestlé (M) Bhd gained 34 sen to RM90.52, while Petronas Dagangan Bhd added 30 sen to RM21.08.

Trading activity strengthened, with market turnover rising to 3.6 billion units worth RM3.25 billion compared to 3.34 billion units valued at RM3.25 billion on Sept 15.
