Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has withdrawn from the England squad with a muscle injury, according to British media reports, ending his brief return to Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
The 24-year-old was recalled for England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures after being left out of Tuchel’s World Cup squad earlier this year.
Palmer played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Brentford on Friday before pulling out of international duty.
He had responded strongly to his World Cup disappointment, scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven appearances for Chelsea this season.
England begin their Nations League campaign against newly crowned world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday before travelling to Prague to face the Czech Republic on Sept 29.
Tuchel’s side will then visit Croatia in Rijeka on Oct 3 before hosting the Czech Republic at Wembley three days later.
The extended three-week international window is the first under FIFA’s revised match calendar, which combines the traditional September and October international breaks.
