Foreign Leaders and Mission Congratulate Anwar

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Indonesian President Jokowi have congratulated the newly sworn-in Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo called Mr Anwar on the phone to congratulate him, just before the latter held his first press conference as the prime minister.

Meanwhile, Singapore PM said in a statement that Anwar’s premiership comes amidst significant challenges in regional and global environment. As close neighbours and friends, Singapore and Malaysia should work together to manage these challenges and explore new opportunities for cooperation. He further added that he looks forward to meeting Mr Anwar soon.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made his call to Anwar just as the newly minted prime minister was about to give his first press conference. Anwar expressed hope that Malaysia and Turkey would strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation in many areas including trade, business, culture, education and military, in the tele-conversation that lasted about 10 minutes.

Spiritual leader Dalai Lama has expressed his best wishes for Anwar with “every success in meeting the challenges that lie ahead.”

Meanwhile foreign missions to Malaysia also congratulated Anwar.

German Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Dr Peter Blomeyer congratulated Anwar and said he was looking forward to broadening between Malaysia and Germany.

US ambassador H.E. Mr. Brian McFeeters said he was looking forward to strengthening the US-Malaysia strategic partnership, while the Japanese ambassador said he hoped the new government would lead Malaysia in unity and promote relations between the two countries.

Japan’s Ambassador H.E. Takahashi Katsuhiko said he sincerely hoped that the new government will lead Malaysia in unity and further promote Japan-Malaysia relations. “Congratulations to YB Dato’Seri Anwar Ibrahim @anwaribrahim who has been sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia,” he tweeted.

Australian ambassador Justin Lee said in the Facebook that Australia and Malaysia are the closest of friends and was looking froward to working with Malaysia under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
