Genting Malaysia Berhad announced that its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Genting New York LLC, has been selected for the award of a commercial casino license by the New York State Gaming Commission. The announcement, made on December 15, 2025 (US Eastern time), clears the way for the full-scale development of Resorts World New York City (RWNYC).
The award is expected to position RWNYC, located at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, as the first full-scale commercial casino in New York City, and potentially one of the largest gaming destinations outside of Las Vegas.
Following the licensing approval, the company plans a rapid transition, leveraging its existing Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) facility. The first phase of the expanded integrated resort is expected to open by the second quarter of 2026.
The full proposal for RWNYC is an ambitious undertaking, projected to involve a massive investment to transform the existing property into a comprehensive integrated resort. Analysts have previously highlighted Genting’s bid as the strongest due to its speed to market, massive scale, and substantial tax contributions.
The development, which includes plans for thousands of slot machines, hundreds of live table games, new hotel rooms, and a large-scale entertainment venue, is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to New York State.
