6.3 Earthquake Rocks Russian Coast, No Tsunami Alert For Malaysia

A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula at 2.52pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at latitude 52.7° North and longitude 160.6° East, about 128 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia.

The department confirmed that the seismic event poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

No tsunami warnings have been issued for Malaysian waters following the earthquake.
