Shah Alam LRT To Have Three-Coach Trains With 624 Passengers Capacity

The Shah Alam LRT line, set to begin operations at the end of June, will run three-coach trains with a capacity of up to 624 passengers each, boosting public transport capacity across the western Klang Valley, according to Rapid KL.

Spanning 37.8km, the line will connect Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang, providing a major new rail link for communities that have long depended on road travel.

The route will feature 20 stations across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, with four additional stations planned for future development. Key stations include Bandar Utama, Glenmarie 2, Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri, UiTM Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Bandar Bukit Tinggi and Johan Setia.

The line’s biggest impact is expected to come from its integration with the wider Rapid KL network through two interchange stations, improving connectivity and helping to ease congestion along the rapidly growing corridor.

Passengers will be able to seamlessly connect to the MRT Kajang Line at Bandar Utama, offering direct access to key destinations such as Bukit Bintang, the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Pasar Seni, KL Sentral and Kajang.

Meanwhile, the Glenmarie–Glenmarie 2 interchange will connect the Shah Alam Line with the Kelana Jaya Line, expanding access to central Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Putra Heights and Gombak.

Under Rapid KL’s distance-based fare structure, a full journey from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia will cost RM4.90 for cash users and RM4.30 for passengers using cashless payment methods such as Touch ‘n Go. Concession card holders will pay RM2.40 for the same journey.

Rapid KL offers three concession categories — Rapid Pelajar for Malaysian students, Rapid Emas for Malaysians aged 60 and above, and Rapid Mesra for persons with disabilities (OKU) registered with the Social Welfare Department. Rapid Pelajar and Rapid Emas card holders receive a 50% fare discount, while Rapid Mesra users travel free on Prasarana-operated rail and bus services.

The opening of the Shah Alam LRT line is expected to improve connectivity between Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, while providing residents in the western Klang Valley with easier access to the MRT and LRT networks through Bandar Utama and Glenmarie.
