Inokom To Launch Advanced Paint Facility As It Expands Automotive Assembly Capacity

Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd is set to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities with the launch of a new advanced paint facility, as the automotive contract assembler seeks to expand capacity amid rising vehicle production and export activities.

The Sime Motors-owned company, which operates a 200-acre assembly complex in Kulim, Kedah, produced more than 31,800 vehicles in 2025, up from 20,500 units in 2021. Over the same period, it exported more than 24,500 vehicles to regional markets, making it one of Malaysia’s largest automotive exporters.

The company’s expansion comes as it continues to diversify its production portfolio, including electric vehicles (EVs). In 2023, Chery added the Omoda E5 to Inokom’s assembly programme, marking the facility’s first EV assembly project.

Operating under a plant-within-a-plant model, Sime Darby Bhd’s Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson said Inokom runs dedicated assembly lines tailored to the requirements of individual automotive brands.

“The company also works with about 370 local vendors, including Bumiputera enterprises, as part of its supply chain network,” he added.

Looking ahead, he shared that Inokom’s new paint facility is expected to enhance operational capacity as it positions itself to capture opportunities arising from evolving automotive technologies, electrification trends and growing regional demand for locally assembled vehicles.
