Several major roads near nomination centres across Johor will be closed or diverted in stages tomorrow to facilitate nomination day for the 16th Johor state election.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said about 19 roads in Johor Bahru, Kulai, Batu Pahat, Muar and Kluang have been identified for closures or traffic diversions to ensure the nomination process proceeds safely and smoothly.
Among the affected roads are Jalan Utama Dato’ Onn and Jalan Ayer Molek in Johor Bahru, Jalan Persiaran Indahpura 6 in Kulai, Jalan Omar in Batu Pahat, Jalan Arab and Jalan Petri in Muar as well as Jalan Dato’ Teoh Siew Khor and Jalan Sultan in Kluang.
He said detailed information, including the timing of road closures and diversions, would be announced through the Royal Malaysia Police’s official channels.
Ab Rahaman said police have also identified 22 locations across 17 state constituencies for close monitoring based on security assessments and previous election experience. The locations include nomination centres expected to attract large crowds as well as busy urban areas.
A total of 4,832 police personnel will be deployed on nomination day to maintain security, manage traffic, monitor public order and enforce the law.
He advised the public to plan their journeys, follow instructions from the authorities and use alternative routes where necessary. He also urged supporters of political parties to behave responsibly, comply with the law and avoid any actions that could disrupt public order.
The Election Commission has set June 27 for nomination day, July 7 for early voting and July 11 for polling day.
