A thunderstorm warning has been issued for several states nationwide, with thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until 7 pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued the warning at 3 pm, covering wide areas across Peninsular Malaysia as well as parts of Sabah and Sarawak, affecting both inland and coastal regions.
In the northern region, affected areas include Perlis and Kedah, covering Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Kuala Muda and Kulim, along with Penang. In Perak, the warning extends to districts such as Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar and Bagan Datuk.
For the east coast and central belt, thunderstorms are expected in Gua Musang, Kelantan, and several districts in Terengganu, including Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun. In Pahang, Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong and Rompin are also included in the alert.
Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are likewise under the warning, with all districts in Selangor expected to experience adverse weather conditions.
In East Malaysia, the affected areas in Sarawak include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu and Miri. In Sabah, the warning covers parts of the Interior, West Coast and Sandakan divisions, including Keningau, Tambunan, Ranau, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan.
Authorities have cautioned that the storms may bring heavy downpours and strong winds, increasing the risk of flash floods, fallen trees and hazardous driving conditions in several areas.
The public has been advised to stay alert to weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
