The Ministry of Finance has received more than 13,000 applications for an additional 100-litre monthly diesel quota under the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) programme, as demand builds during the early phase of the targeted subsidy rollout.
In a statement, the ministry said applications were submitted via the official BUDI MADANI portal as of 11 am on June 28, 2026, shortly after the system opened for eligible owners of pick-up trucks and four-wheel drive vehicles seeking to increase their monthly entitlement.
Under the current framework, private diesel vehicle owners are allocated a baseline subsidy of 200 litres per month. Eligible applicants may apply for an additional 100 litres, bringing the total potential allowance to 300 litres monthly, subject to approval.
The strong response comes alongside the early access phase of the programme, which has so far been operating smoothly, according to the ministry. The system for diesel purchases using MyKad verification at petrol stations recorded no major technical disruptions during its initial rollout in Peninsular Malaysia.
On the first day of early access on June 27, nearly 24,000 transactions were recorded, involving close to one million litres of subsidised diesel worth about RM2.1 million, priced at RM2.15 per litre.
The Ministry of Finance said the implementation has been stable, with coordination between fuel retailers, oil companies and relevant agencies ensuring a smooth user experience ahead of full nationwide rollout.
From July 1, 2026, the BUDI Diesel programme will be fully implemented across Malaysia, with eligible citizens able to purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre using MyKad verification.
The ministry described the subsidy reform as part of a broader effort to better target assistance, reduce leakage and ensure supply security for groups most dependent on diesel, particularly households and small vehicle owners.
Commercial transport, logistics and public transport operators will continue to receive diesel subsidies through the Diesel Subsidy Control System (SKDS), administered by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, according to approved operational categories.
The government is also working with state authorities and agencies to refine data on additional diesel-dependent groups, particularly in rural and remote areas, to ensure eligible users are not excluded from the scheme.
The Ministry of Finance said it will continue to monitor the rollout and make adjustments based on feedback from users and industry stakeholders. Further information and eligibility checks are available through the official BUDI MADANI portal.
