The government has taken disciplinary action against 81 Immigration officers for abuse of power and corruption between January and June this year, with 14 dismissed from service as part of efforts to strengthen integrity within the agency.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the action underscores the department’s zero-tolerance stance against misconduct and its commitment to restoring public confidence.
He revealed that, cumulatively from 2023 to 2026, 834 Immigration officers have been subjected to disciplinary action, with 69 dismissed from the service.
Zakaria also confirmed that 11 Immigration officers from the Federal Territories, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor are currently being held by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist investigations into alleged abuse of power and corruption.
He said the officers have been relieved of their official duties pending the completion of the MACC’s investigations to ensure they are not involved in any further misconduct.
“We will not compromise on misconduct committed by our officers, regardless of whether they are senior or junior personnel. There will be no favouritism or protection for anyone,” he said.
