Schools Nationwide Get 1,000 Recycled Tables And Chairs Through MILO Initiative

More than 300 schools across Malaysia are benefiting from a recycling initiative that has turned used beverage cartons into resources for classrooms and sports activities.

The MILO Energy for Good initiative is delivering 1,000 sets of tables and chairs made from recycled beverage cartons to schools that have recorded strong participation in the programme.

Now in its second year, the initiative uses a points-based redemption system where students collect and recycle used beverage cartons before exchanging them for resources for their schools.

The programme is being implemented with the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Tetra Pak Malaysia and builds on recycling efforts under The CAREton Project, which has been running for more than a decade.

The initiative is intended to give students a practical understanding of the circular economy by showing how discarded cartons can be converted into useful products rather than simply treated as waste.

Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, said, “At Nestlé, we believe sustainability should be practical, accessible and rewarding. Through MILO® Energy for Good initiative, we are helping students see that every recycled beverage carton can contribute to something meaningful for their schools and communities.”

He added that the programme was aimed at encouraging students, teachers and families to make recycling part of their daily routines.

Chua Chung Wei of SJKC La Salle, a returning participating school, said, “The greatest reward has been seeing our students embrace recycling as part of their daily lives. Through MILO® Energy for Good initiative, they have learned that simple actions can lead to meaningful outcomes, from supporting their school to helping the environment.”

The programme’s latest milestone comes as participating schools continue to use recycling as a way to encourage environmental responsibility among students, while demonstrating how collected materials can be given a second life.
