Google Cloud has opened its Singapore Engineering Centre (SEC), a flagship Southeast Asian product development hub designed to build enterprise cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in Singapore for deployment in global markets.
The centre brings together engineers across AI, AI infrastructure, data, compute, machine learning, networking, storage and frontline support, with teams working directly with enterprises to turn foundational technology into production-ready cloud systems.
Unlike a conventional regional support office, the SEC is positioned as a build-and-export hub, developing products locally for worldwide use. It is also co-located with Southeast Asia’s first Google DeepMind research lab, linking frontier AI research more closely with commercial product development.
The centre, supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), will focus on next-generation agentic cloud infrastructure, integrating foundational AI models into enterprise systems, and building developer platforms and automation tools for hybrid and multicloud environments.
EDB Executive Vice President Beng Kong Pee said the facility would deepen Singapore’s AI and cloud ecosystem while creating new core engineering and forward-deployed engineering roles.
Google Cloud said early collaborations are already underway with regional companies, including stress-testing real-time multilingual AI models with Grab and developing financial agentic AI workflows with DBS.
The company is also expanding its regional Forward Deployed Engineer workforce to help customers take technologies developed at the SEC from pilot stage into commercial production at scale.
Moe Abdula, Google Cloud’s Vice President of Customer Engineering for Asia Pacific, said Singapore was selected because of the diversity and pace of the regional market, with the centre anchoring the AI value chain from foundational research through productisation and deployment.
Google Cloud said the hub is intended to turn frontier AI capabilities into ready-to-deploy enterprise products faster, while strengthening Singapore’s position as a base for globally oriented cloud and AI development.
